Spanish Broadcasting System reported second quarter 2025 results, showing declines in revenue and operating income but continued growth across its digital platforms. Net revenue for the quarter ended June 30 fell 14% to $34.4 million, compared to $40.0 million in the prior-year period. Operating expenses decreased 10% to $25.9 million, reflecting lower costs in special events, programming, compensation, and promotions.
Station Operating Income (SOI), a non-GAAP measure, dropped 23% to $8.5 million from $11.1 million, while Adjusted OIBDA declined 30% to $6.2 million from $8.9 million. The company posted a net loss of $4.4 million, compared to a $346,000 loss a year earlier
For the six months ended June 30, net revenue declined 16% to $62.0 million, while Adjusted OIBDA fell 44% to $7.1 million. SBS cited weaker advertising demand, market uncertainty, and the January wildfires in Los Angeles as key factors
"We continued to execute our strategic plan during an economically sluggish second quarter, including investing in multiple growth initiatives, while simultaneously driving further reductions in our operating costs," said Chairman and CEO Raul Alarcon. He noted SBS is "delivering consistently strong audience shares" while expanding digital reach through platforms like LaMusica and its recently launched LaMusicaTV FAST channel on Roku
LaMusica's unique users rose 18% in Q2, with average session length hitting 55 minutes. YouTube views grew 140% sequentially, while WSKQ-FM, billed as the most-streamed station in the U.S., set new records
The company highlighted strong performance at KROI-FM in Houston, acquired in late 2024, which is rapidly building share among Hispanic listeners. SBS also pointed to ratings momentum from the new morning show at WSUN-FM in Tampa
SBS continued its efforts to exit television operations. On August 15, the company closed the sale of its Puerto Rico television stations WVEO, WTCV, WVOZ-TV and related equipment for $5.7 million, following earlier setbacks with a failed $64 million sale to Voz Media.
