KDKA/Pittsburgh veteran traffic reporter Kathy Berggren has announced her retirement after a storied 42-year career. A staple voice for Pittsburgh commuters, her voice has been a consistent presence during morning drive, helping listeners navigate the streets and highways of Pittsburgh. Berggren's last day at the Audacy-owned station was marked by nostalgic conversations and farewells on Friday, May 31.

Over her four-decade tenure, Berggren has seen the landscape of traffic reporting transform, from her early days with binoculars atop the US Steel Tower to utilizing advanced networks of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation cameras.

During a final broadcast with morning host Larry Richert, Berggren reminisced about her unique start in the industry and the evolution of her role over the years. She shared humorous anecdotes and reflected on how technology has reshaped the way traffic is monitored and reported.

KDKA Brand Manager P.J. Kumanchik stated, "Kathy is the gold standard when it comes to traffic reporting. Among all those who have held this position, she was truly the best."

As a tribute to her lasting impact and dedication, the Pittsburgh Pirates extended an invitation to Berggren to throw out the first pitch at a Spring Training game in 2025, to be held at their complex in Bradenton, FL. This honor recognizes her long-standing contribution to the community and her status as a beloved figure in Pittsburgh radio.
