Laurie DeYoung, a mainstay of iHeartMedia's Country 93.1 WPOC in Baltimore, will be signing off from the morning show this week after a 39-year run. DeYoung, whose voice has become a familiar presence to morning listeners, clarified on her show's Facebook page that she isn't retiring but leaving due to recent budget reductions at iHeartMedia.
Her final broadcast on the morning show will be this Saturday, December 20. DeYoung is set to return in February with a brand new weekend program.
Inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 2010, DeYoung has been a fixture on WPOC since September 1985. Her career in broadcasting began in 1975 at WMUZ in Detroit and includes roles at multiple stations across the country, such as WSHN in Fremont, MI and KBZT in San Diego, before her long tenure at WPOC.
