Longtime WKRZ (98.5 KRZ)/Wilkes Barre-Scranton air personality Rocky Rhodes announced Monday that he will step away from the microphone after a 45-year broadcasting career, with his final show scheduled for Thursday, May 1.

"I hate the 'R' word. I'm not retiring...I'm just unplugging," Rhodes said. "After 45 years on the air, 35 of them here in NEPA on KRZ, I have decided to unplug. It's been quite a journey."

Rhodes and his wife, Sue, moved to northeast Pennsylvania in 1989, trading the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for the Pocono Mountains. Reflecting on his career, Rhodes shared, "Lots of amazing memories...most of which our legal department today would flag."

He expressed gratitude to many people who supported his journey, including his first KRZ bosses Ken "Doc" Medek and Gerald Getz, current station leaders OD and Ryan Flynn, and "Psycho" Mike Duffy, who Rhodes noted rose from intern to morning show producer, program director, and close friend.

Rhodes also praised his longtime co-host Lissa, who is approaching her 15th year at KRZ, and thanked his wife, Sue, for her unwavering support through multiple moves and career changes.

Additionally, Rhodes credited industry figures like Don Anthony, Kidd Kraddick, and Jeff & Jer for their mentorship and influence, saying, "It was a true blessing."
