WGN-AM/Chicago is adding a familiar voice to its morning lineup as acclaimed film critic and columnist Richard Roeper joins Bob Sirott's morning show for a new weekly segment. Beginning Thursday, May 15, Roeper will appear live at 7:20am, with a replay airing at 9:50am. The segment will feature Roeper offering his signature blend of insight and edge on a wide range of topics, from pop culture and current events to issues impacting Chicagoans.

"I'm thrilled to be joining my friend Bob Sirott every week so we can exchange views about whatever Chicagoans are talking about, whether it's the new pope, the prospects for his Cubs and my White Sox, to what's happening with pop culture or news," said Roeper. "Bob was instrumental in launching my TV career back in the day, and I look forward to this new collaboration."

The new segment reunites Roeper and Sirott for the first time since their days on Fox32's "Fox Thing in the Morning" in the 1990s. Roeper won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy for his commentary on the show, and the pair later shared another Emmy for a half-hour special that aired in 1998.

"Rich will add a much-needed voice to my North Side perspective," said Sirott, longtime host of WGN's morning drive.

Roeper, a fixture in Chicago media for nearly four decades, spent 37 years at the Chicago Sun-Times as a columnist and nationally syndicated film and television critic. He co-hosted the nationally popular "Ebert & Roeper" and has received three local Emmy Awards, authored nine books, and currently hosts a podcast while contributing to ABC-7.
