After more than seven years in Tampa morning radio, Laura Diaz will step away from iHeartMedia AC WMTX (Mix 100.7) this week as she transitions to a career outside of media. Her final broadcast is scheduled for Friday, September 5.
Diaz announced her decision to listeners Tuesday morning. "It is time for me to start a new chapter of my life and I've decided to step away from the show and I will be pursuing a career outside of the radio business. Yeah, stepping away from media," she said on-air. She added that she plans to remain in Tampa.
Diaz joined Mix 100.7 in January 2019 after seven years co-hosting "Johnny's House" at CHR WXXL (XL 106.7) in Orlando. Before her radio career, she worked in television news as an anchor and reporter in Orlando and Monroe, Louisiana. Over two decades in broadcasting, she built a reputation for combining personality with journalistic experience, establishing a loyal following in the competitive Tampa market.
In a social media post, Diaz reflected on her departure. "After more than 20 years in media, I'm hanging up the mic," she wrote. "Thank you so much for sharing your mornings and hearts with me over the years. I'm forever grateful for you."
Her co-host Brody, who joined Mix 100.7 in April 2019, will continue in mornings. Brody previously hosted nights at CHR WFLZ/Tampa and has also worked at WFKS/Jacksonville, WJHM/Orlando, WKSS/Hartford, WXXL/Orlando, and KUPL/Portland.
