iHeartMedia Houston's KBME (SportsTalk 790) is adding a new local team its lineup with the debut of "The Morning Drive with Dan & Cole," launching Monday, November 24. The new live, Houston-focused sports show will air weekdays from 6-10am.
Hosted by Houston natives Dan Mathews and Cole Thompson, the show promises hyper-local coverage built around the Astros, Rockets, Texans, major college matchups, and top national sports stories. The duo will approach each morning with analysis, insider insight, and a shared passion for their hometown teams.
"We're thrilled to add Cole to mornings, alongside Dan," said Chris Gordy, Program Director for SportsTalk 790. "Both guys eat, sleep and breathe all things Houston sports, and bring a passion and enthusiasm to kick off each morning right."
A University of Alabama graduate, Thompson spent the past decade covering Houston sports, with previous roles in Austin, San Antonio and on SportsMap Radio. He most recently produced "The A-Team" and hosted "The Night Cap" on SportsTalk 790.
Mathews has covered Houston sports since 2009, beginning his on-air career locally before spending several years in Atlanta with 92.9 The Game and 680 The Fan. His work included hosting, reporting, play-by-play, and producing "The Chuck Oliver Show." Since returning to Houston in 2023, he has produced and hosted multiple shows on SportsTalk 790, including morning duties on "The Sean Salisbury Show," and regularly hosts Astros and Rockets pre- and post-game coverage.
