Detroit radio personality Jim O'Brien has exited Beasley Media Group's Classic Rock "94.7 WCSX" following a 24-year run with the station.
O'Brien announced the news on social media, writing, "After an incredible 24 run at WCSX, my time with the station has come to an end. I'm grateful to the listeners, teammates, clients, veterans, and the Detroit community who allowed me to be part of their mornings for so many years."
Known on-air as "Big Jim," O'Brien joined WCSX in 2002 as executive producer and co-host of the Ken Calvert morning show before taking over mornings in January 2014 with "Big Jim's House."
During his tenure, O'Brien became a well-known figure in Detroit radio and community events, helping spearhead efforts that included naming streets after rock artists Bob Seger and Glenn Frey, while also participating in charitable fundraising efforts that generated millions of dollars for local causes.
According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, O'Brien said he is not retiring and plans to remain in the Detroit area. He also indicated he will continue producing automotive reviews and other content through his @jimobriendet social media channels and maintain his other professional activities.
