The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group is extending the application window for its 2020 MIW Mildred Carter Mentoring Program to Friday, May 1. Currently in its 19th year, this notable experience pairs women working in radio with female professionals who are recognized leaders from all aspects of the broadcasting industry. vCreative, the nation's leading provider of media workflow solutions, is sponsoring this year's program.
Four candidates will be selected for the 2020 MIW Mildred Carter Mentoring Program. Women with a minimum of five years of radio experience, and currently working in sales, marketing, programming, digital and /or engineering, are encouraged to review mentee criteria and instructions on how to apply. Please visit RadioMIW.com. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 1.
vCreative CEO Jinny Laderer said, "In 2008, shortly after launching vCreative, many MIW's encouraged me and helped steer me through the difficult challenge of starting a company during the recession that hit the radio industry especially hard. I am forever grateful to the MIW's, and so it's an honor to pay it forward by sponsoring this year's Mildred Carter Mentoring Program."
Former Mildred Carter Mentee Jillene Khan of Mid-West Family Broadcasting/Madison said, "I can't recommend the MIW Mildred Carter Mentoring Program enough, and I know this year's class of mentees will feel the same! It's been a significant part of my success and has been such a positive addition to my life."
MIW Group Spokeswoman Denyse Mesnik added, "The MIW's heritage Mildred Carter mentoring program is an experience coveted by women in our industry. The professional and personal benefits our mentees receive, and the incredible connections they establish, last a lifetime. We are very grateful to Jinny & John Laderer, and the vCreative team, for sponsoring the 2020 program."
"This unique initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for ambitious, experienced women in the industry to gain valuable insight, knowledge and grow their professional network. This program truly does propel the careers of women forward in our industry," says Lindsay Adams (formerly Cerajewski) MIW Mentoring Committee Chair, Entercom's Vice President National Agency Partnerships and also former MIW Mentee. "It is rewarding to watch our Mentees grow professionally throughout the year."
The MIW Group Mentoring Program is named in the memory of Mildred Carter, who, along with her husband, Andrew "Skip" Carter, founded the first African American owned radio station in the U.S. in 1950, when they launched KPRS Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Carter ran the Carter Broadcast Group for many years after the death of Skip Carter, before turning over control of the company to her grandson, Michael Carter in 1987.
