KOMO Newsradio Wins Multiple Regional Murrow & AP Awards

KOMO (News 1000/FM97.7) in Seattle won three regional Murrow awards including Best Newscast (Morning Drive) with Gregg Hersholt & Manda Factor and the KOMO morning news team, Breaking News (Lake City Shooting, Afternoon Drive) with Rick Van Cise & Elisa Jaffe and the KOMO afternoon news team and Best Continuing Coverage (Boeing, Year of Crisis.

Rick Van Cise, Program Director and afternoon news co-host commented "KOMO Newsradio has once again been honored with one of the most prestigious prizes in journalism which is a testament to our news team's great work every day." KOMO now heads to the national Murrow Awards competition. Winners will be announced in June.

Additionally, KOMO won seven western region awards (six 1st place and one 2nd place) from the Associated Press Television and Radio Association including:

  • Best Daytime Newscast: KOMO, Seattle, "Morning News";

  • Best Weather Reporting: KOMO, Seattle, "February Snowstorm"

  • Best Sports Coverage: Bill Swartz, KOMO, Seattle, "The Thursday Night Dawg House."

  • Best Sports Reporting: Bill Swartz, KOMO, Seattle, "Talking Dawgs."

  • Best Sportscast: Gaard Swanson and Bill Swartz, KOMO, Seattle.

  • Best Investigative Reporting: Charlie Harger, KOMO, Seattle, "Boeing: Year of Disaster"

  • Best Evening Newscast: 2nd place, KOMO, Seattle, "Afternoon News."
