Midwest Communications Classic Rock WIMZ-FM/Knoxville afternoon personality William Winningham (aka Billy Kidd) died Tuesday at his home in Knoxville at the age of 61. Raised in Livingston, TN, Winningham began his career at WLIV before working on-air at WRJT in Monterey, TN. He accepted an on-air post at WIMZ in 1990. Winningham worked nights before moving to morning drive as part of the "Phil & Billy" show with partner Phil Williams. Winningham took over the afternoon drive slot in 2001.

Midwest Communications/Knoxville VP/GM Randy Ross said, "Words can't describe the tremendous void we feel as we mourn the loss of a treasured member of our radio family and a friend to East Tennesseans everywhere."

Winningham was an avid supporter of Second Harvest Food Bank, and over the years has helped raise over a half million dollars and over 30 tons of food with his annual Camping For Cans food drive. He was inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame in 2018, he was an active member of the motorcycle community across East Tennessee, he participated in countless rides to help collect toys for children and to support those that just needed a helping hand. Winningham was an unapologetic advocate for veterans, military, law enforcement, firemen, EMT's and all first responders.

The station has a tribute to Winningham at www.wimz.com.
