WGY-AM & FM/Albany to Celebrate its 100th Anniversary

iHeartMedia/Albany's WGY (News Radio 810 & 103.1), The Capital Region's Breaking News, Traffic and Weather Station, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on February 20. WGY will mark its centennial anniversary with a live celebration beginning at 1pm as New York's first radio station. Many past and present hosts, news anchors and members of New York's Capital Region will take part in the special event.
A retelling of radio's first radio drama "The Wolf" will also be presented live from the Kenmore Ballroom in Albany, NY, where WGY has a history of broadcasting from going back to 1923. The event at the Kenmore begins at 3pm with a lecture from Chris Hunter from the Museum of Innovation and Science. Music from the Musicians of Ma'alwyck will also be featured.
Tickets for the event can be purchased for $35 at www.WGY.com/100. The event can be heard on 810AM, 103.1FM, on the station's website, as well as on iHeartRadio.com and the app.
WGY kicked off its' centennial year with a new podcast series called "Wireless: 100 Years of WGY." The podcast launched January 31 and is hosted by WGY News Anchor Mike Patrick and features intimate and candid interviews with many familiar WGY voices, with new episodes released weekly. The podcast can be heard on the station's website, on iHeartRadio.com and the app.
