The city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, NC, have each proclaimed April 10, 2022, as WBT Day in recognition of News/Talk 1110 & 99.3 WBT's one hundredth anniversary. To further mark the occasion, various Charlotte organizations will light the Charlotte skyline that night in the station's colors of red, white and "WBT Blue."

As the third radio station officially licensed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the first in the Southeast, WBT has served the city of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC and listeners "From Canada to Cuba" since April 10, 1922. Through the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, Hurricane Hugo, the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks, and countless local, state, and national events, residents have listened to WBT for entertainment, news and information for a century.

With assistance from Charlotte City Council member Tariq Bokhari, District 6, and members of the city's Office of Constituent Services, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles signed the Proclamation of WBT Day on behalf of the City of Charlotte. Sponsored by Mecklenburg County Commissioner Pat Cotham, At-Large, co-sponsored by Commissioners Vilma Leake, District 2, and Mark Jerrell, District 4, and signed by Chairman George Dunlap, District 3, the county Proclamation of WBT Day was presented to WBT's morning hosts Bo Thompson and Beth Troutman on April 5.

"Quite simply, we are humbled and honored," said WBT Program Director Mike Schaefer. "Recognition by the City and County of this unique milestone, and their proclamations of WBT Day means everything to the twenty-five team members of WBT, and to the over one hundred hard-working members of our extended Radio One Charlotte family."

WBT's 100th Anniversary Celebration event will take place on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30pm at Dale F. Halton Theater in Uptown Charlotte. Tickets are available now at WBT.com. On Sunday, April 10, from 10am to 1pm, WBT will air special programming to commemorate the station's century of broadcasting.
