Report: Spotify Helps Radio Convert Shows to Podcasts

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Spotify is targeting radio broadcasters with a product update that will make it easier to covert its shows into podcasts, while offering a new source of ad revenue on existing content. Spotify's "broadcast-to-podcast" technology is integrated into Megaphone, a podcast hosting platform that Spotify acquired in 2020.
Using Megaphone, publishers will be able to input the URL to a live stream of their broadcasted content and automatically have a podcast created from that programming. The "broadcast-to-podcast" service will identify ad marker locations, giving publishers the opportunity to remove ads that originally aired on the live version of the program and dynamically insert spots in their place, resulting in more revenue.
