Veteran Chicago programmer and air personality Rick O'Dell is set to embark on a new chapter as he officially retires from his position as Program Director of Weigel Broadcasting's "MeTVFM" network, beginning on Wednesday, October 4. O'Dell took the helm as the Program Director for WRME-LP (87.7)/Chicago and its network of affiliated stations in October, 2015. But his contribution to the world of radio in the Windy City dates back even further.

As the Creative Services Director at WCLR, O'Dell made history by launching the first Smooth Jazz show in the market in 1987. The groundbreaking move paved the way for him to join 95.5 WNUA in 1989, where he assumed the roles of Music Director and midday host. He would remain with the station until May, 2009, when it bid farewell to Smooth Jazz. Notably, he rose to Program Director for WNUA in 2007.

O'Dell's passion for music and radio extended beyond the terrestrial airwaves. He delved into multiple streaming projects and took the reins as the programmer for Smooth Jazz on WLFM-LP from later in 2009 until 2012. He also shared his knowledge and insights as an adjunct professor in the School of Media Arts at Columbia College Chicago. O'Dell's influence extended into the digital realm as well, where he contributed his expertise to AccuRadio's Smooth Jazz channels.
