Audacy's KYW Newsradio's "Bridging Philly" is hosting a poignant series entitled "Stories from the Journey" throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, shedding light on the multifaceted battle against breast cancer. Sponsored by the Penn Medicine | Virtua Health Cancer Program, the series dives into personal accounts and medical insights, culminating in a live-audience finale at Audacy Philadelphia's headquarters.

The final episode, "Breast Surgery and Reconstruction," brought together leading medical experts and courageous survivors to discuss the complexities of breast cancer treatment and the path to recovery. Panelists included Dr. Alexander Au, Chief of Plastic Surgery at Virtua Health and a specialist at Penn Medicine | Virtua Health Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Dr. Lori Timmerman, a noted breast surgeon with the program. Survivors Cathy Thompson and Kristen Davidson shared their inspirational stories, offering a deeply personal perspective on overcoming the disease.

Racquel Williams, Community Impact Reporter and host of "Bridging Philly," who is herself a two-time breast cancer survivor, emphasized the series' goal to boost awareness and promote proactive health measures. "This month of programming is not just about sharing stories but also about urging both women and men to prioritize screening and prevention," Williams stated. She highlighted the importance of community and support in battling this pervasive disease.

The timing of the series aligns with encouraging news from the American Cancer Society, which reports a decline in breast cancer mortality rates in 2024, attributed to advancements in treatment and earlier diagnosis. This year, over 300,000 individuals are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, underscoring the critical importance of continued research and awareness efforts.
