Veteran Christian Radio personality Rob Dempsey has died at age 57 due to complications from stage 3 bladder cancer. Dempsey, known for co-hosting the "Rob and Lizz in the Morning Show" airing from WLFJ-FM (HIS Radio) in Greenville, SC, passed away just one week after revealing his cancer diagnosis to his audience. Dempsey spent over 24 years at HIS Radio and over 35 years in Radio Training Network.
His health battle took a sudden turn when he was hospitalized for emergency surgery and subsequently suffered cardiac arrest. His wife, Amy Dempsey, confirmed that he died from a pulmonary embolism.
In the days following his diagnosis, Dempsey remained optimistic and vocal on social media about his condition. He expressed gratitude for the prayers and support he received and shared his resolve to fight the illness. "Thankfully I'm at peace today knowing God is in control," Dempsey posted. "The days ahead will be tough, and that's ok. I am determined to be there for my kids and to see my grandchildren grow."
Dempsey had recently embraced a healthier lifestyle, shedding 140 pounds, but noted unusual symptoms in September, which led to his diagnosis. Despite the challenges, he found hope in stories of others who had overcome similar conditions, reflecting his enduring spirit.
His colleagues at HIS Radio paid heartfelt tributes, remembering him not just as a boss but as a leader and motivator. "His fingerprints are all over this place. He made such an impact on the community and Greenville. We lost him, but heaven gained such an incredible person," they stated.
Dempsey's influence extended beyond his immediate circle, touching lives across the Carolinas and Georgia through his role in Christian music broadcasting. The outpouring of grief and fond memories shared by listeners online underscores the depth of his impact.
Rob Dempsey is survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy, and their four children. His life and legacy will be honored in a funeral service at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, with provisions made for live streaming to accommodate the numerous lives he touched.
