Sarah Morris, General Manager of KCUR (89.3) in Kansas City, has been elected to fill an unexpired term on the NPR Board of Directors, effective January 2, 2025. The 23-member board oversees NPR's operations and strategic direction, comprising representatives from member organizations, public directors and NPR leadership.

"It's a privilege to serve on the board of one of the nation's most respected media organizations," said Morris. "NPR's mission to keep the public informed with essential news and information has never been more critical - and with the media landscape rapidly changing, we are uniquely positioned to fulfill our network's true potential. I'm eager to work with my colleagues to shape what's next."

Morris has served as General Manager of KCUR (89.3) and KWJC (91.9 Classical KC), both under the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), since 2021. During her tenure, she has spearheaded major initiatives to strengthen public media collaboration and local journalism. She helped establish the Midwest Newsroom, an NPR regional newsroom serving four states, and the KC Media Collective, a partnership among six nonprofit media organizations. Her efforts secured a $1 million grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to support these initiatives.

Under her leadership, KCUR also launched KCUR Studios, which produces podcasts reaching approximately 100,000 listeners each month. Morris brings nearly two decades of experience in strategic marketing, communications and leadership roles in the private and nonprofit sectors. She previously served as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategic Marketing and Communications at UMKC.

NPR's Board of Directors includes 12 member directors elected by NPR member organizations, nine public directors, the NPR Foundation Chair, and NPR's President and CEO. The board guides the organization's governance, strategy, and financial sustainability.
