The "Country Oldies Show," a staple for fans of Classic Country hits, is marking its 30th anniversary this year. Veteran New York Country air personality Steve Warren launched the show in 1994 on WYNY-FM, filling a gap in the market during an era dominated by "hot, young, new" trends in the Country music format.
The concept was simple: bring the classics of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s to life for Country fans in the nation's largest media market. Warren, a familiar voice from NYC's previous country powerhouses WHN (where he served as Music Director) and WKHK, collaborated with Program Director Chris Kampmeier to create the Sunday night show, airing from 9-midnight.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, particularly among older listeners who appreciated the nostalgic programming. However, in February 1996, WYNY's transition to WKTU with a dance format marked the end of its country era. "Country Oldies Show" then became a nationally syndicated program, running on a 100% barter basis.
Stations airing the show require no additional inventory, as all ad spots are integrated directly into the broadcast. For more information or a full-length demo of the show, contact Steve Warren via email at steve@countryoldiesshow.com.
