Pat Hughes (pictured left), a legendary voice synonymous with Cubs baseball, is set to continue his storied career as the team's radio broadcaster. Entering his 30th season with the Cubs, Hughes, alongside his longtime broadcast partner Ron Coomer, has signed a multi-year extension to remain behind the microphone for Sports WSCR (670 The Score). Hughes and Coomer are embarking on their 12th season together calling Cubs games.
"Pat and Ron have been with our fans for many of the most memorable moments in Cubs history," said Cubs chief commercial officer Colin Faulkner. "Their voices are synonymous with Cubs baseball and the voices of our summer. We are thrilled they will continue to bring their passion and expertise to our fans for years to come."
Hughes, 68, has built a career spanning over four decades, with previous stops in Minnesota and Milwaukee before joining the Cubs in 1996. His tenure has included iconic moments, such as the historic home run race of 1998 and the Cubs' long-awaited World Series championship in 2016, which ended a 108-year drought.
A nine-time Illinois Sportscaster of the Year, Hughes is one of three non-player broadcasters in the Cubs' Hall of Fame, joining legends Jack Brickhouse and Harry Caray. Despite his accolades, Hughes remains deeply appreciative of his role as the voice of Cubs fans.
Ron Coomer, a former MLB player and Illinois native who spent part of his career with the Cubs in 2001, brings a jovial yet insightful presence to the booth. His strong understanding of the game complements Hughes' steady, classic approach, honed from influences like Russ Hodges and Vin Scully.
