Jeff Bieri, a mainstay of Colorado Public Radio's KRCC in Colorado Springs, has announced his retirement, effective December 31. Bieri, who began as a volunteer music host in 1989 and has served as station manager in recent years, has been instrumental in shaping the station's identity and connecting with the community of southern Colorado.

Colorado Public Radio President and CEO Stewart Vanderwilt praised Bieri's dedication. "Jeff was crucial as KRCC integrated into the CPR family, helping to elevate our service in Colorado Springs and allowing us to share southern Colorado's unique stories statewide," Vanderwilt said. "His voice and presence have become a hallmark of KRCC, and he leaves behind a formidable legacy."

Bieri's relationship with KRCC dates back to his childhood, sparked by memories of listening to the station's polka show with his Swiss immigrant parents. His passion for the station was ignited as a teenager after participating in a membership drive, where he first saw the impact of community-supported radio. This early engagement led to a lifelong career where Bieri became known for his versatile hosting capabilities across various music shows and flagship NPR programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

Reflecting on his tenure, Bieri shared, "It has been a profound honor to serve at KRCC and engage with such a supportive community. I am deeply grateful to our listeners and donors, and as I retire, I urge them to continue supporting KRCC and its essential role in our community."

In tribute to Bieri's enduring contribution, KRCC has initiated the Jeff Bieri Member Challenge Fund to encourage new memberships and support for the station. Additionally, Bieri's retirement coincides with that of the KRCC office dog, Marvin, who has been a beloved fixture at the station for nearly a decade.
