In an act of kindness, the Greensboro morning show, "Jared and Katie in the Morning" on WKZL (1075 KZL), delivered an over-the-top Christmas surprise to a family devastated by a recent natural disaster.

The Calloway family from Newland, NC experienced a Christmas miracle in 2024, courtesy of the show's annual "Breaking and Entering Christmas" event. The family's life was turned upside down when Hurricane Helene triggered a fatal mudslide that destroyed their home. Joe and Kylee Calloway, along with their young children, David, 5, and Sophia, 3, and their grandmothers, narrowly escaped the disaster with their lives but lost both grandfathers in the tragedy.

Now residing in a cramped camper, the Calloways have faced tremendous grief and loss. Despite these challenges, they have managed to maintain hope with the support of their community. They were chosen from hundreds of nominations as the family most in need of a boost of Christmas cheer.

On the morning of December 17, while the Calloway family enjoyed a breakfast outing, the team from "Jared and Katie in the Morning" "broke into" their temporary home located at 1833 Elk Park Highway, Newland, NC. The family will returned at 7:30am to a house transformed with festive decorations and gifts, aiming to provide some relief and joy during this difficult time.

"Jared and Katie in the Morning" is not only a local fixture but also a show that consistently gives back to the community. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, earning them multiple accolades from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters and making them finalists in the prestigious National Marconi Award.
