iHeartPodcasts and Novel Audio have unveiled "The Girlfriends: Spotlight," a new segment in the "The Girlfriends" podcast series, scheduled to premiere on April 7. The anthology will introduce listeners to eight episodes that delve into the lesser-known tales of women enmeshed in crime, survival, and justice.
Hosted by journalist Anna Sinfield, "Spotlight" seeks to illuminate the complexities of true stories centered on domestic violence, survivor empowerment, and justice. The series will share profound narratives from individuals like Tracy Otto, a domestic violence survivor who later showcased her resilience at the 2024 Paralympics, and Lu Ann Cooper, who escaped a notorious polygamist cult in Utah.
Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts, expressed enthusiasm about the series' expansion, stating, "With 'Spotlight,' we're taking this story even further by giving voice to new perspectives that are both inspirational and thought-provoking."
The franchise is set to continue with another narrative season focusing on Kelly Harnett, a domestic abuse survivor who contends her innocence in a murder conviction. This season, also led by Sinfield, is anticipated to launch later this year, paving the way for more episodes of "Spotlight" and subsequent series installments.
Craig Strachan, CEO of Novel Audio, reflected on the impact of the series: "The stories of our extraordinary girlfriends, through their incredible bravery and resolute determination in the pursuit of justice, have empowered listeners across the world," he said. "We're delighted to introduce our new host Anna Sinfield, who has been at the heart of the production team since launch, meeting remarkable women, winning in the face of adversity."
"The Girlfriends: Spotlight" will be available on the iHeartRadio app and wherever podcasts are found.
