Mike Arlo was honored with the inaugural Career Achievement Award at the Virginia Association of Broadcasters' 88th Annual Summer Convention on Friday, recognizing a legendary radio career that has spanned more than five decades.

The award, introduced for the first time this year, celebrates extraordinary dedication, impact, and excellence in broadcasting. It was presented to Arlo in recognition of his indelible influence on Hampton Roads radio and his enduring connection with generations of listeners.

Arlo began his broadcasting career in 1975 with Arlo On Your Radio on WNOR (FM99), where he quickly became a staple on the local airwaves. In 1996, he joined Saga Communications' Classic Rock WAFX (106.9 The Fox), bringing his deep knowledge of rock music, infectious enthusiasm, and signature handlebar mustache to a new audience.

"Mike Arlo is more than a voice on the radio -- he is a cornerstone of Hampton Roads broadcasting," said Carol Commander, General Manager of Hampton Roads Media Group (WAFX/WNOR). "His dedication to his craft, our listeners, and our community represents the very best of our industry."

Over the years, Arlo has been celebrated not only for his on-air charisma but also for his strong community involvement and commitment to local causes. His presence has become synonymous with rock radio in the region, earning him a devoted fan base and the respect of his peers.

The Career Achievement Award cements Arlo's place among Virginia's broadcasting greats and underscores the legacy of a broadcaster who helped shape the sound of a region for half a century.
