iHeartMedia has announced the retirement of longtime Area President Jeff Tyler, marking the end of a 47-year career in broadcast radio. Tyler, whose leadership spanned nearly every facet of the business, officially steps down today after decades of service in the Madison and Milwaukee markets and beyond.
Tyler's broadcasting journey began in 1978 as an air talent in Madison and Milwaukee. His impact on the industry grew significantly in 1997, when he helped orchestrate one of the first market mergers following Capstar Broadcasting's acquisition of six stations -- an early consolidation that laid the groundwork for iHeartMedia's current Madison cluster.
Over the years, Tyler served in a variety of leadership roles, including Market Manager for both Madison and Milwaukee. In 2010, he was elevated to Region President and later took on leadership of the Minneapolis region in 2015. By 2018, he had risen to Division President before returning to Wisconsin in 2022, eventually assuming the role of Area President.
"Broadcast radio has been my life," said Tyler. "I've worked in every aspect of this business and have been fortunate to work for tremendous leaders who helped shape my career, including the creative and innovative team at iHeartMedia. I'm grateful to have worked with so many talented, dedicated professionals in vibrant broadcast markets, serving advertisers and creating meaningful partnerships. I'm excited to begin a more flexible chapter of life with my family, while continuing to support our sports partnerships in the short term."
Tyler's retirement drew praise from colleagues across the company.
"It has been an honor to work with Jeff at many levels throughout our careers," said Nick Gnau, Division President, iHeartMedia Multi-Platform Group. "His deep knowledge of both sales and programming is truly exceptional. I'll miss his leadership and our daily collaboration, but I'm thrilled for him to enjoy more relaxation and family time after such an extraordinary career."
