StreamGuys Adds Rewindable Stream Metrics to Analytics

StreamGuys has introduced new functionality to its SGreports analytics suite, enabling broadcasters and media companies to access detailed consumption metrics for rewindable streams. The update directly integrates SGreports with SGrewind, StreamGuys' time-shifting service, providing real-time insights into how audiences interact with rewound content on SGplayer and other HTML5-based web and mobile players.

The integration is now available and marks the first time that consumption metrics for time-shifted streams can be directly tied to front-end user behavior. This development allows broadcasters to better understand how, when, and why listeners are revisiting previously aired content.

"SGrewind is a valuable front-end tool for streamers because it lets listeners and viewers jump back to specific points in time to access or rewatch content that was already broadcast," said Robert Minnix, Head of Product at StreamGuys. "With SGreports, the client can merge scheduling information with the streaming data that we store and understand precisely what percentage of listenership is generated specifically through SGrewind, and which programs through the day that people consistently return to."

Originally relaunched nearly two years ago, SGreports is a log processing and content analytics tool designed to support business and programming decisions for live streams and podcasts. Enhancements made in 2023 introduced user dashboards with improved visualizations, simplifying data analysis across podcast episodes and program streams.

SGreports tracks a wide array of metrics, including total listening hours, active sessions, unique users, geographic data, and device usage. With the new SGrewind integration, it now also helps broadcasters pinpoint which segments of a live stream are most frequently revisited, offering insight into content that resonates most with audiences.

The feature also brings implications for monetization strategies. SGrewind supports ad insertion during replayed content, and the combined data from SGreports can help target those ads more effectively. "By accessing the audience data we pull from SGrewind and place within SGreports, including choice of content and behavioral characteristics, we can effectively leverage our ad-triggering metadata from live streams to insert new ads during replays," said Eduardo Martinez, Vice President of Technology at StreamGuys. "That adds an entirely new layer of monetization to the mix."
