The Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA) will welcome five new members into its Hall of Fame during the NBA Annual Convention on Tuesday, August 12 in La Vista. This year's inductees are Dennis and Kathi Brown, Dale Johnson, Mike McKnight and Dave Wingert. Their addition will bring the Hall of Fame, established in 1972, to 123 members.
Dennis and Kathi Brown, the first husband-and-wife owner/operator team to be inducted, met at a Colorado radio station and purchased KCSR-AM in Chadron in 1991, saving it from closure. They expanded with the acquisition of KBPY-FM in 2011, building their stations on community service, local news, weather and high school sports. Kathi is recognized for helping local businesses grow through advertising, while Dennis has been a strong advocate for radio on Capitol Hill and served three terms as NBA Board Chairman.
Dale Johnson's Nebraska radio career spans 51 years, including 38 years as news director at Lincoln's KFOR before joining Nebraska Public Media in 2023. Known for his trusted interviews and award-winning reporting, Johnson has covered major stories and accompanied Governor Dave Heineman on a trade mission to Cuba.
Dave Wingert's broadcasting career spans more than 60 years, with stops in Kansas City, Seattle and national syndication before making Omaha his base. Known for his energy and humor, Wingert currently hosts mornings on KOBM-FM "Boomer Radio" and remains active in community fundraising efforts.
Mike McKnight has been a fixture at Omaha's WOWT-TV since 1977, building a reputation as one of Nebraska's most respected investigative reporters. His work has exposed wrongdoing across industries and government, earning Murrow, Sevareid, and numerous other awards. He also played a role in establishing courtroom camera access in Nebraska.
