The Connecticut Broadcasters Association (CBA) has announced its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, honoring a distinguished class of radio and television professionals who have made lasting contributions to broadcasting in the state. The honorees will be celebrated at the annual Hall of Fame and CBA Station Awards ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, October 7 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
This year's Hall of Fame class features a number of standout figures from Connecticut radio, including longtime WYBC/New Haven voice Juan Castillo, WEBE 108 personality Danny Lyons, and former WTIC-AM morning host Ray Dunaway.
"The Hall of Fame shines a light on those who have devoted the majority, if not all, of their careers to Connecticut broadcasting," said Kristin Okesson, Chair of the CBA and Senior VP/Market Manager for Connoisseur Media. "The CBAs honor the broadcasters who are shaping the future through their work every day - and awards aside, this night is about coming together to celebrate the hard work and dedication of everyone in our industry."
Castillo has been a fixture at WYBC in New Haven since 1989, rising from on-air announcer to Director of Operations and Afternoon Drive host. Known for his deep community engagement and his advocacy for public service, Castillo brought a unique perspective to the airwaves, shaped in part by his early experiences working in parole and corrections. His leadership has helped WYBC remain a trusted local institution for decades.
Lyons, whose Connecticut radio career began in the 1970s, has become one of the most enduring and beloved radio voices in the state. After stints at WAVZ, KC101, WTIC-FM, and even WNBC in New York, Lyons settled in at WEBE 108 in Fairfield County, where he has served listeners for an extraordinary 38 years. Lyons is also widely known for his philanthropic efforts, having raised millions through events like KidsFest and Christmas Wish.
Dunaway, a morning staple on WTIC-AM since 1992, retired in 2021 after nearly 30 years waking up Connecticut. His warm, conversational style and coverage of pivotal events - including the state income tax debate and the tragedy at Sandy Hook - earned him the trust of listeners across Greater Hartford. A Trinity College graduate, Dunaway also gave his time generously to charitable causes throughout the region.
The 2025 event will also honor television and meteorology figures, including Joe Furey, Ann Nyberg, Klarn DePalma, and Kara Sundlun, each recognized for decades of service and excellence across Connecticut's airwaves.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame and CBA Awards ceremony are now available at ctba.org. The evening will spotlight excellence in broadcasting while bringing together professionals from radio and television stations throughout the state.
