There's something special about the moment holiday music returns to the radio. Katz Media Group's latest Radio Insight report shows that the seasonal switch to all-holiday programming continues to deliver not just festive cheer -- but measurable audience growth.
In 2024, more than 400 stations nationwide flipped to 24/7 holiday playlists throughout November and December. To analyze the impact, Katz examined 102 stations in Portable People Meter (PPM) markets, which track listening continuously year-round.
The results were clear: stations that embraced holiday music saw steady increases in listenership during the December ratings period compared to January through September. Across markets and formats, audiences were tuning in and staying longer, drawn by the mix of beloved classics and new festive favorites.
From car singalongs to family gatherings, radio's holiday soundtracks continue to unite communities and mark the official start of the season. Katz says the data reinforces what broadcasters have long known - when the holidays arrive, radio remains at the heart of the celebration.
