A new study from Edison Research reveals that a significant share of Americans -- especially younger users -- believe they spend too much time on TikTok. The findings will be presented later today during a webinar featuring Edison Research Senior Director of Research Alex Bargiacchi and Associate Director of Research Salma Aly, showcasing never-before-seen data from the firm's latest custom study, The Infinite Scroll: A TikTok Report.
The report examines how frequently Americans use TikTok, their perceptions of the platform, attitudes toward a potential ban, trust in the information they encounter, and views on advertising. It also explores whether users feel their time on TikTok is excessive and what steps some have taken to curb their usage.
According to the study, 42% of U.S. weekly TikTok users say they spend too much time on the app. That concern rises sharply among one of TikTok's most active demographics: 13- to 24-year-olds. More than half (54%) of weekly users in that age group feel they overuse the platform -- roughly 21 million Americans. By contrast, 40% of weekly users ages 25-44 and just 27% of those 45 and older share that sentiment.
