Audacy announced that longtime Philadelphia Eagles play-by-play voice Merrill Reese has been named a 2026 recipient of the Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service, recognizing his contributions to mass communications and sports broadcasting.
Reese was honored during the awards ceremony held April 24 at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE. Other 2026 recipients included astronaut Michael Massimino and actress Jane Seymour.
Audacy Philadelphia Senior Vice President of Sales David Yadgaroff said Reese's voice and style have defined generations of Eagles football, calling him one of the most accomplished play-by-play broadcasters in NFL history.
Reese is entering his 50th season as the radio voice of the Philadelphia Eagles, a tenure marked by his signature calls and long-standing connection with fans.
Established in 1979, the Common Wealth Awards of Distinguished Service recognize individuals across fields including the arts, science, public service and communications. Each honoree receives a $75,000 prize funded through a trust administered by PNC Bank Delaware.
Reese joins a list of past recipients that includes figures such as Desmond Tutu, former U.S. President Joe Biden, Colin Powell, Meryl Streep and Morgan Freeman.
