Max Media has announced a pair of programming promotions affecting two of its Coastal Virginia stations, Country WGH (97.3 The Eagle) and AC WTWV (92.9 The Wave) in Norfolk-Virginia Beach.
Barry McKay (pictured) has been elevated from his midday role on 97.3 The Eagle to Program Director/Brand Manager and afternoon host at 92.9 The Wave. In addition to his on-air shift, McKay will oversee the station's Yacht Rock format as it continues to develop in the market.
McKay has spent decades in Coastal Virginia radio and has been with Max Media for eight years. His promotion places him in a leadership role guiding one of the company's newer brands while maintaining an on-air presence.
Concurrently, Jerry Hoyt has been promoted to Assistant Program Director for 97.3 The Eagle and will assume the station's midday shift. Hoyt has been with Max Media for more than 15 years in a variety of roles, including on-air, production, engineering and IT.
Hoyt's career includes previous stops at stations such as WNVZ (Z104) and WVKL (Kool 95.7) in Norfolk, as well as time in Washington, D.C. and Fredericksburg before returning to Coastal Virginia in 2014.
Max Media said the moves are part of its strategy to promote from within while strengthening programming leadership and local content across its stations.
