Gow Media's SportsMap Radio and The Athletic, a subscription media company offering local and national sports coverage, have announced a new content and promotion partnership. Effective August 29, The Athletic will enable Gow to air some of its top podcasts as shows on SportsMap Radio and Gow in turn will run an on-air marketing schedule to promote subscriptions for The Athletic.
"We are thrilled to be in partnership with The Athletic," said Gow Media CEO David Gow. "The Athletic has assembled the top pool of journalists in sports media. We are excited to add their high-quality content to our lineup."
"The partnership with SportsMap Radio enables us to extend the reach of our audio content to a national network of affiliate radio stations and tap into SportsMap Radio's large audience base," added The Athletic Head of Audio Nick Adler. "We look forward to bringing more of The Athletic's in-depth analysis and original storytelling to more listeners across the country."
While the schedule of shows is still to be determined and may vary seasonally, confirmed shows in the lineup include "Starkville" hosted by Jayson Stark and Doug Glanville, "The Andy Staples Show," "The Athletic NBA Show" featuring David Aldridge and Wosny Lambre and "The Keith Law Show" on MLB.
Over the past few months Gow has established several partnerships that have enhanced its 24/7 lineup. The company added top industry talent including Scott Ferrall through SportsGrid and Tony Bruno and Eytan Shander through Jakib Media.
"We don't need to create every show ourselves. Through partnerships like this one with the Athletic, we have assembled a 24/7 lineup that is best-in-class," said Gow. Last month, Gow rebranded its radio network to become The SportsMap Radio Network, after previously operating the entity through brand licensing agreements with SB Nation and Yahoo.
