Tulsa-based Zoellner Media Group has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase all of Cox Media Group's radio outlets in Tulsa, marking the company's first major foray into local broadcasting. Terms were not immediately disclosed. Upon completion of the transaction, Zoellner Media Group will acquire four stations: KRMG (102.3 FM and 740 AM), KWEN (K95.5), KRAV (Mix 96.5), and KJSR (The Eagle 103.3).
This acquisition is being spearheaded by Dr. Robert H. Zoellner, a longtime Tulsa entrepreneur and optometrist who has been a prominent figure in the local business community for nearly 40 years. Dr. Zoellner, who opened his first optometry clinic in 1991, credited radio with playing a key role in his business success.
"We're thrilled to welcome these incredible radio stations into the Zoellner Media Group family," said Dr. Zoellner. "Radio has played a crucial role in my business success, and I have always been passionate about its ability to connect communities and drive meaningful engagement. This acquisition allows us to build upon a legacy of excellence while fostering innovation across broadcast and digital platforms. I couldn't be more excited to get started."
Dr. Zoellner has appointed broadcast veteran Steve Hunter as President and General Manager of the new radio group. Hunter brings over 29 years of experience in Tulsa radio, including 22 years as Director of Operations for Cox Media Group Tulsa and seven years with Griffin Media.
"One of the reasons Zoellner Media Group is the right transaction partner is their intent to invest in our Tulsa radio stations to build on the momentum the Tulsa team has established," said Dan York, President and CEO of Cox Media Group. "We share the belief that there's a strong future for our radio stations and our people serving the Tulsa community."
The sale is subject to FCC approval and is expected to close in the early part of the second half of 2025. Zoellner Media Group was represented in the transaction by Mark Jorgenson of Jorgenson Broadcast Brokerage.
