Longtime Tulsa morning host Dan Potter has exited 102.3 KRMG, ending a 17-year run at the new Zoellner Media Group News/Talk outlet and 13 years in morning drive. Potter confirmed to the Tulsa World that his departure came suddenly during what he believed would be a contract discussion with new owner Dr. Robert Zoellner. Instead, Potter said he was informed the station would not renew his contract.
"Our paths hadn't crossed yet in his ownership," Potter told the newspaper. "Shook his hand, sat down. He said, 'We're not renewing your contract.' They handed me a check, and security showed me out of the building."
Zoellner recently acquired KRMG -- along with K95.5, Mix 96.5, and 103.3 The Eagle -- from Cox Media Group as part of a multimillion-dollar deal.
Before joining KRMG in 2008, Potter spent nearly two decades at WBAP-AM in Dallas, including time as News Director. His career also includes stops in the Quad Cities and Fort Wayne, IN. Beyond radio, he has served as the in-stadium announcer for Drum Corps International since 2000 and hosts the organization's podcast, DCI's Field Pass.
