WNYC in New York has named Michael Sol Warren to its newsroom, where he will serve on the Day-of Desk as a dedicated New Jersey reporter beginning February 17. Warren has covered New Jersey since 2017, most recently as a producer for NJ Spotlight News. He previously reported for NJ Advance Media, working under journalist Karen Yi.
His reporting has focused largely on environmental issues. Warren reported and produced the "Hazard NJ" podcast and collaborated with New York Public Radio on a series of short documentaries examining the intersection of climate change and agriculture in the Garden State. He also created a multimedia feature on the life of an African elephant born in the wild and now living at Six Flags Great Adventure.
Over the years, Warren has covered a wide range of stories across the state, including illegal dumping in Sussex County, Newark's drinking water crisis, politics in Trenton, conditions facing nursing home residents during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, sexual abuse allegations at a reptile education center, and the case of a New Jersey man who later committed a mass murder in New Mexico.
A graduate of the University of New Mexico and Boston University, Warren lives in Central Jersey.
