WXDX-FM (105.9 The X)/Pittsburgh, the flagship for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins, will launch a new HD-2 multicast channel in September, devoted specifically to the Penguins, the NHL and other hockey-related programming. The announcement comes on the heels of the KRLD-FM's announcement earlier last week, that it would launch a 24/7 HD-2 channel for the Dallas Cowboys.
"Pittsburgh Penguins Radio" will be a joint effort with "105.9 The X" and will be heard on 105.9 HD-2 beginning with training camp coverage in September. The Penguins are the first team in pro sports to announce the creation of a 24/7 channel.
"The Penguins always are looking for new ways to deliver unique content to the greatest fans in hockey, and we're excited now to be the first team to venture into the world of 24/7 HD radio," said Penguins Senior VP/Corporate Sales Dave Soltesz.
"It won't be your ordinary talk show by any means," Soltesz added. "The format of this show will be high energy, covering a variety of intriguing topics. Penguins fans are everywhere -- on Twitter, Facebook, texting, listening, watching -- looking for any information on our team and players. That's what this show will be about."
