Urban Sports/Talk will launch in St. Louis on July 22, when Simmons Media replaces its syndicated programming on WFXX-AM with local talk shows hosted by African-Americans reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The station will also return to the WESL call letters and drops Fox Sports Radio programming, including hosts Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.
Longtime St. Louis radio host Richard "Onion" Horton will air in mornings (6-9am), Rob Desir and Robert "Moses'' Knighten in late mornings (9-11am), Charlie "Tuna" Edwards in middays (11am-2pm), Craig Black in early afternoons (2-4pm) and Maurice Scott in late afternoons (4-6pm).
"Mornings are going to really focus on politics, everyday life more than sports, then we'll focus more on sports as the day goes on," commented GM John Helmkamp. "We use sports as a jumping-off point to talk about life."
