Veteran radio personality, Don Cannon, known as "The Dean of Philadelphia Radio," has died, reports Philadelphia Magazine. He was 74. Cannon, a New York native who adopted Philly as his home, was heard on morning radio there from 1969 until his retirement in 2004. The "Cannon in the Morning" show started on WIBG and has been heard on WIP, WFIL, WIFI and WSNI. His last stint was with CBS Radio's WOGL-FM from March 1990 to June 2004.
On the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia web site, President Gerry Wilkinson wrote, "Don was legend among legends. When you thought of morning drive, you had to think of Don Cannon. He was one of the good people in this industry. I can't remember a time when someone asked Don to do something and he couldn't or didn't do it. For decades, Don Cannon ruled the airwaves. Now heaven has a new morning drive air personality."
Cannon (aka Dominic Canzano) also hosted of "Inside Golf" Saturday nights on the Comcast Sports Network, and he was a big Eagles fan. He is survived by his wife Terri, two sons and two granddaughters.
