iHeartMedia Classic Rock WAIO-FM (Radio 95.1)/Rochester, NY, afternoon hosts Kimberly Ray and Barry Beck are being sued for slander by the former owner of a local meat market. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that the duo allegedly called Michael Amalfi Sr. a drug dealer on the air. The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, also names iHeartMedia as a co-defendant.
Kimberly & Beck -- who were fired a year ago by crosstown Entercom Rock WBZA-FM (98.9 The Buzz) -- for comments about transgender people and a a local veterinarian -- said last May that Amalfi sold pot at his family's Amalfi's Meat Market. Amalfi's son Michael Amalfi Jr. was arrested in 2014 on charges involving the sale of over 200 pounds of marijuana, however, the senior Amalfi was not involved and the son never opearated the meat market.
"The logical result and inevitable effect of this defamation was to expose the plaintiff to ridicule, obloquy, disgrace and embarrassment," said his suit filed in state Supreme Court.
Amalfi, who now lives in Florida, helped operate the family-owned Amalfi's Meat Market, that closed in 2004.
