Sad to report that longtime central Maine air personality Don Brown has died. He was 77. Brown passed away Thursday due to complications from multiple strokes. WMME-FM (92 Moose) Augusta ME said in an online post that Brown was the creator of the "Love Fund." His previous on-air stints spanned some 49 years and included stops at WABK-FM, WKCG and, most recently, Oldies WCTB-FM (Cruisin' 93.5) in Waterville.
"Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with his family, friends and the hundreds of people he worked with and touched over the years," wrote Matt James in a post on Facebook.
Brown was inducted into the Maine Broadcasting Hall of Fame In 2006 and he was honored with the Citizen of the Year award in 2011.
