Genesis Communications Network to Shut Down

After nearly three decades in operation, Genesis Communications Network (GCN), is closing down. According to GCN, their last broadcast day is Sunday, May 5. Over the years, GCN became one of the premiere independent radio syndicators known for their wide range of shows, capable engineering and attentive affiliate relations staff. Created in 1997 as a broadcast partner with founder Ted Anderson's precious metals business, "Midas Resources," GCN ended up outliving Midas as Midas closed down in the last decade.

With the move, client Free Talk Live, who entered syndication through twenty years ago, plans to self syndicate. Over the years with GCN, Free Talk Live became their top show by affiliate count, beating their previous top dog, Alex Jones.

"We could not have gotten to where we are today without the professionals at GCN's office and behind their network board. It is with a heavy heart that I was informed this weekend of GCN's intent to end broadcast operations after May 5. I am told that despite their tremendous success in converting their affiliates to internet audio delivery after Westwood One's attempt to jack up their satellite rates last year, GCN's sales have been suffering recently and Ted decided it was time to wind down the business," said FTL.
