Radio One Atlanta will flip Adult R&B W275BK, known as Classix 102.9, to Classic R&B and Today's Southern Soul, effective February 1. The new format aims to merge the appeal of Classic R&B with Southern Soul, featuring artists such as King George, Tucka, Sir Charles Jones, and Calvin Richardson. This mix promises to honor the rich musical heritage of Atlanta while introducing fresh, soul-stirring sounds.
Derek Harper, Operations Manager at Radio One Atlanta, shared his excitement about the new programming direction: "We are happy to serve our listeners with the music they love. Southern Soul is rapidly gaining traction as a favorite genre, and we are proud to feature it prominently throughout our daily lineup."
Tony Richards, Program Director of Classix 102.9, also commented on the update, saying, "Southern Soul is where it's at. We are gearing up to deliver this dynamic genre in a fun and powerful way, while still cherishing the Classic R&B hits our audience adores."
The station continues to host the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, which airs weekdays from 6-10am.
