Ralph Johnson, the iconic percussionist of Earth, Wind & Fire, is marking a significant milestone this weekend as his radio show, "Jazz Epicenter 6.7," airs its 100th episode. The special broadcast will take place on Saturday from 8-10pm on KUNV-FM (91.5 Jazz & More).
Over the past two years, Johnson has been at the helm of "Jazz Epicenter 6.7," dedicating his time and musical expertise to provide a world-class listening experience for jazz enthusiasts. His involvement with the show stems from his deep passion for the genre and his commitment to supporting public radio. Johnson's efforts have been crucial in sustaining the operations of KUNV, a station managed by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Despite facing financial hurdles such as budget cuts and staff reductions, Johnson has remained a vital supporter of the station. His contributions extend beyond the airwaves; he has donated concert tickets, offered backstage experiences, hosted meet-and-greets with fans, and even engaged in guest lecturing, all aimed at boosting fundraising efforts for the station and promoting the jazz landscape in Las Vegas.
Jason Beatty, Operations Manager at KUNV said, "Getting Ralph's show on the air was one of my first big wins when I started at 91.5 Jazz & More, and it remains one of the greatest successes of my career. I'm grateful to call him a colleague and a friend. Ralph, thank you for everything you do for the station and for jazz fans like me."
The show is available on 91.5 Jazz & More and can also be streamed online at KUNV.org, through TuneIn, the station's mobile app, or by asking their smart speaker to play 91.5 Jazz & More.
