Audacy Podcasts has partnered with creator Lena Dunham and writer-historian Alissa Bennett to handle sales and distribution for their podcast The C-Word, bringing the previously paywalled series to all major podcast platforms for free for the first time.

Originally released in 2019 on the subscription-based Luminary platform, The C-Word explores the lives and legacies of high-profile women who have been labeled "crazy" by society. The show blends cultural commentary with in-depth storytelling and has earned praise for its empathetic and incisive perspective.

The first three episodes of the podcast will be re-released on Thursday, July 31, with additional episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays. The relaunch is accompanied by a new trailer available now, and listeners can follow the show on their preferred podcast platforms.

"We loved making The C-Word, and now we're thrilled to bring her out of the vault and into the hearts of listeners everywhere," said Dunham and Bennett in a joint statement. "These stories are just as resonant today as when we first told them, and partnering with Audacy allows us to reach a broader audience."

Episodes cover a range of public figures including Lindsay Lohan, Judy Garland, Mariah Carey, Winona Ryder, astronaut Lisa Nowak, pro wrestler Chyna, and journalist Janet Cooke -- the only person to return a Pulitzer Prize. Each episode explores how media and culture shaped these women's narratives, challenging the societal urge to marginalize complex female figures with reductive labels.

"Lena and Alissa's fearless and funny storytelling make The C-Word as great today as it was when they first created it," said Leah Reis-Dennis, Head of Podcasts at Audacy. "This partnership underscores Audacy's continued investment in premium podcasts and our ability to amplify distinctive creator-led storytelling through scalable, ad-supported distribution."
