FCC Releases Q1 2010 Report on Consumer Inquiries

The FCC has released its report on inquiries and complaints processed by the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB) during the first quarter. The total number of inquiries for all four reported categories increased more than 7%, from 24,496 in Q4 2009 to 26,240 in the Q1 2010. Notably, the number of Radio and Television broadcasting inquiries fell nearly 6% from 5,449 in Q4 2009 to 5,135 in Q1 2010.
The bulk of the radio and television broadcasting inquiries, 52%, pertained to broadcast programming issues. Q1 complaints increased more than 230%, from 53,661 in Q4 2009 to 177,589 in Q1 2010. In this regard, there was a notable increase in the radio and television broadcasting category, where complaints increased 1259% from 9,740 in Q4 2009 to 132,416 in Q1 2010
Complaints for Q1 rose 2305 overall to 177,589, driven by a whopping 1259% increase in radio and television complaints to 132,416. The majority of complaints involved broadcast indecency as the Commission received 127,655 out of 130,651 indecency complaints.
