iBiquity Digital, developer of HD Radio, announced Thursday that it has approved Sanyo Semiconductor Corp.'s SDRS-400 reference design and its LC75040 tuner for HD Radio receivers. Sanyo's solution is primarily designed for automotive products but is suited for other applications for HD Radio devices.
The SDRS-400 and LC75040 integrates a digital AM/FM tuner, RDS, audio function and a micro computer into a single DSP chipset for a car radio solution.
"We are excited to play an integral role in the growth of the HD Radio system," said a Sanyo executive. "We bring excellent experience to the development of high-quality, integrated audio solutions."
iBiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury commented, "We are very pleased that Sanyo has entered the HD Radio technology marketplace. Sanyo is well placed to meet the rapidly growing demand for high-quality chip sets for the rollout of new automobile platforms offering HD Radio receivers as standard or options in vehicles."
Overall, more than 1.5 million HD Radio chip sets have been manufactured and more than 1 million modules shipped, with more than 100 different HD Radio products available to consumers.
