Rhythmic CHR WFFY-FM (Fly 92.1)/Fort Walton Beach, FL, air talent Kevin Murphy was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking a man at Club Overboard on Saturday (10-31). According to the arrest report, Murphy, 30, struck a man in the head with a glass beer bottle with enough force to shatter the bottle and leave a two to three-inch cut.
Qantam Communications, which owns WFFY along with Hot AC WMXZ-FM and Variety Hits WWAV-FM in the market, has suspended Murphy pending further investigation.
NWFDailyNews.com said the victim appeared to be intoxicated when deputies arrived at 1:05am and refused medical treatment. He also said he and Murphy were seeing the same girl. He approached Murphy, "apologized for the girl starting problems between them" and the men shook hands. Three hours later, he said Murphy attacked him without provocation.
Murphy told the arresting officers that his anger had gotten the better of him and he beat the man up because he was tired of him. When asked if he had struck the man with a beer bottle, Murphy said a bottle was in his hand at the time of the fight and would not give further details.
