NCAB to Sponsor Kellar Radio Talent Institute

Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, has announced that the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB) will sponsor, in part, the university's fourth Kellar Radio Talent Institute held July 12-21. The 10-day summer program attracts, trains and creates opportunity for talented, enthusiastic and educated young adults who have a passion for the broadcast industry and ownership.

The Institute covers it all including on-air, programming, writing, news, sports and sales. All students participate in Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) sales training and take the exam to earn their Radio Marketing Professional Certification. Students that have completed the program have since gone to work for CBS, Beasley Broadcast, Clear Channel, Dick Broadcasting, Entercom, Curtis Media, Capitol Broadcasting and others.

"The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters is a proud supporter of the Kellar Radio Talent Institute," said Bruce Wheeler, past president and current board member of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters and VP/GM of WKZL and WKRR/Greensboro. "This program is a terrific incubator for North Carolina's future radio broadcasters. Many of our members have had the privilege of teaching, and learning from, the students who participate. We fully expect these young broadcasters will become our future colleagues and members of NCAB."

"We have now been holding the Kellar Radio Talent Institute for three years and many of the professional broadcasters from around the state have taught at the institute," said Dan Vallie, director of the Kellar Radio Talent Institute and founder of Vallie Richards Donovan Consulting. "To now have the NCAB support the institute in this way even more shows the commitment of broadcasters in investing in young talent and the future of our industry." (04-28-10)
