SRN News Presents Series on ''Heaven Is For Real''

SRN News, a division of Salem Communications, will present a special week-long series focusing on Sony Pictures film version of the New York Times bestseller "Heaven Is For Real," beginning Tuesday, April 15. The film is based upon Nebraska pastor Todd Burpo's account of his son Colton's near-death experience and the visions of Heaven he says happened while doctors were operating on him for a ruptured appendix.

Although millions of readers made "Heaven Is For Real" a bestseller, some theologians have raised concerns about the concept of "Heavenly travel" and have condemned both the book and the film version opening this Wednesday.

SRN News VP/News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup (pictured with Greg Kinnear who stars in the new film) is just back from Los Angeles where he interviewed Kinnear, director Randall Wallace (writer of "Braveheart") and the film's producer Joe Roth. The SRN News series will also feature perspective from theology bloggers Tom McMann and Michael Patton who have written about the controversy created by Burpo's book and the new film.

Tradup, who also traveled to Winnipeg, Canada, during 2012 to observe the filming "Heaven Is For Real" said, "There have been a number of Christian-themed box office hits so far in 2014 including "Son of God," "Noah" and "God's Not Dead." I believe -- in terms of production values, scope, and the quality of the cast and writing, "Heaven Is For Real" has the potential to eclipse all of them... regardless of where theatregoers are in their walk of faith."
